Stone Scales??
I was just curious if making scales out of some kind of stone was even possible. I assume it would be harded to work with, and the weight may be an issue.

I believe cannel coal could be used.
http://www.answers.com/topic/cannel-coal-2
As stated it can be cut and polished and does
not soil the skin. The Indians in this neck of
the woods used it form ornaments.
It can also be drilled. I made a smaill pendant
out of the stuff and have worrn it for about 10
years on a necklace.
Not really sure where you could get hold of any
though seams do exist in WV.
Also cannel coal can be sanded into shape. Now
as far as being flexible? Not sure.

I have seen knife handles made from agate , granite and jade ,but never razor scales. I`m not sure but I think they would crack due to the flexing
Kind regards Peter

If the stone is tough enough, it doesn't need to flex but balance is still an issue. Best for use on wedges.

The scales must have some flex to make the straight razor stay open...
