Default Need help choosing scales for razor

    I have a razor: A Wilson & Son, Sheffield.
I need scales for this razor.
The length from the center of the hole to the tip of the toe is about 118 mm and the size is 5/8".

I was looking at Superior Shave and I was thinking of a couple:
    1. 138mm long & ~122mm of internal clearance to accommodate the distance between the center of your straight razor's hole and the tip of its toe

    2. 140mm long & ~124mm of internal clearance to accommodate the distance between the center of your straight razor's hole and the tip of its toe.

I was also looking at Custom Straight Razor Scales , but they don't give any sizes.

I haven't replaced scales before so I have questions about determining the length of the scales: if the scales are too long it will leave too much space from the toe to the spaces inside the razor, which might not look good, or I will need to set the pin on the end where I attach the razor farther in from the end than the opposite end of the razor. Does this matter?

Like to hear about things I need to consider or other places to buy scales. Looking for economical, but decent.

    Thanks

I just went to the wed site you listed to check prices and they are not bad. I'm not familiar with them as to quality, how they are to deal with, etc. I did save the site in my Favorites for future ref.

I have bought a couple of sets from Jarrod at Superior Shave and have no complaints; nice scales at a decent price & Jarrod is a good guy to deal with.

Also check out Member Services in the Classifieds here on SRP. The members here really know what they are doing and they won't rip you off.

OR you could get hold of some acrylic and make your own - it is very satisfying

Option 1 seems about right. You need a little more than 118mm, and that one shows 122 mm. I think you'll be happy with it. OTOH, I cut my own, and I don't have to do any measuring.
