    Default Imagine

Imagine that you have a 5/8 or 6/8 blade without scales but it has good steel (in other words it might have "Boker" or some other famous brand name stamped on the tang). However the blade is severely pitted and rusted. In order to clean the blade, the hollow grind and stamped identity would be completely lost and you would end up with a full wedge unidentified blade 4/8 or 5/8 wide that would need new scales. Is it worth while or does it make sense to rescue that razor and make the conversion to a full wedge straight razor?

I think you'd have to do a heck of a lot of steel removal to turn a hollow into a wedge. Starting at 6/8, you might wind up with a 3/8 or less.

To me the point of restoration is to bring the razor back to as close to original state as possible. If that means leaving some pitting then that's all right. Removing so much steel that you are making it in to another razor alltogether isn't restoration to me but customization.

generally go for a perfect cleanup of the actual blade, but leave pitting on the tang if the alternative is to remove the stamps or the makers mark.
