You can get an even narrower age range Tally Ho if you get one of the C.T. Binghan Tally Ho's. He bought the mark in 1852 and sold it to Wostenholm around 1863.

Yes, but then it's not PRE-1850. See Voidmonster, my rules are working already.
Jimbo, you're more right than you think. . As far as wrapping the wedge, a copper wire wrap on top of bone would look cool. Maybe I will try one when I get this contact wheel thing figured out and a razor finally ground.

I also think it is very cool that someone did a very good job of repairing it.
The rest of these statements reflect our disposable societies.
"Why would he have to be broke to repair this?" As you say it centers good and I am sure it wasn't rusty when it was repaired. I think sensible and capable would be better terms to describe him.
"He probably only owned one razor." Why have two? It has lasted much longer than his lifetime.
I can also imagine his dismay when it broke. But I see elation in an effective fix, not a cheap one.
I agree that we will never know and the guessing is fun!

If you don't know what to do, oil it up and display it. I am sure that you have too many shavers already. I have a display case of some I will not touch as they are cool to look at. They are only original once! Repairs like that are neat. It can always come apart later and be restored?
You can then change your mind! ......or not"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
