Thread: Removing Engravings

So I have purchased a razor with some engraving below the blade. If this is indeed not origional can it be removed without compromising the blade? I can post pic next week when the razor arrives.

"vintage J.A. Henckels twin works torpedo straight razor, made in solingen, germany. The case has seen better days, but does the job. the base blade is engraved on both sides below the blade itself on one side it says made in germany special for joseph app, buffalo, NY. on the other side it says The Knight and has a engraved knight figure. one of kind in good shape."

I guess you are talking about the tang side? The part you hold between your fingers. It can be removed but depending the depth of the engraving you might end up with a rather narrow tang and it might interfere with the shoulder/stabilizer. Pics would help. I presume the box says J.A Henckels but it seems it's not the matching box for the razor. Why wouldn't it be legit or original? Like I said before, pics would help give us a more definite answer.

The blade itself is legit/original just not the special engraving for Joseph App. That part I want to remove to restore it to "Original". I will post some pictures when I receive the item. Ebay is fun and exciting but also scary as you don't truly know what you are getting until you get it!

Well it turned out that the blade itself was not a J.A. Henckels and will be going back to the original owner. While I was waiting I found my answer through videos and forum discussion within the "Workshop".
