Thread: A cameo appearance after a long absence.

I must apologize for my disappearnce from these forums. Ever since I started working (in June) have been absent from these forums. In my defence I did try to keep up the first couple of weeks with my day job and razor restoration but could not make it on five hours of sleep a night.

I had to make a choice and the day job won. I can't say that I am fullfilled but at least I no longer have to worry about covering next month's rent.

I have been lurking in the background on and off and must commend everyone who has posted their restoration projects. Keep up the good work guys. It is a pleasure to see.

It pains me not to have the time to be part of the familly but starting from scratch at 42 does not leave me much time for leasure activities. I have to focus my energies on rebuilding some financial security for the familly.

I finally resolved to at least finish the two projects that I started in June and even that did not work out as planned. Having not done any restoration work for months I was out of practice. Everything took longer and was harder than I remembered.

I only managed to finish one razor out of two and ruined the blade I originally intended for these scales. I resorted to using a replacement blade.

I must admit that I was so frustrated with my in-eptitude that I told my wife that I don't ever want to do this again. I don't know if this will hold, but I certainly don't want to do it when I am this tired or pressed for time

The blade is a 6/8 DD Goldedge which I restored to descent condition. I did not bother replating the gold on the tang. I figured it would wear off anyway so why bother.



I envisioned a somewhat different result but I think this one turned out OK.

The scales are Ebony/Afzelia burl composites on a 0.010" brass liner. Adorned with etched brass bands and covered with a thick layer of CA.

Hope I get the chance to do this again some time soon. Please forgive my absence and don't take it as a lack of interest just a serious lack of time and energy.

Well, if this job is lacking, I can only hope to aspire to a quarter of this! Absolutely amazing. Even when you feel you have doon a 'good' job, it is stunning!

Perhaps you can make some cash teaching us in classes. I hear there is a Razor Hostle opening in Massachusetts You could be a guest speaker!!

Incredible as always vlad. I really like the etched brass bands. Hope everything smooths out for you in the real world and affords you more comfort for your hobby.

Lovely work as always Vlad. I understand your frustration. However this does not have to be a tiring hobby. You can just do it a bit at a time as relaxation therapy. That way you'll still be around. You have been sorely missed here and we all hope to at least see you periodically.

Good to see you and your fine work again Vlad. Having just lost my job (AGAIN!!??!!??) I know what you mean by needing to create stability. Funny too because I was just thinking about you the other day and hoping we might gear from you soon. Looks like my X-tra Sensory Perception is still working.
