Ryobi drill press
So my pops has offered to buy me my first "major" power tool! I have been wanting a drill press after seeing one of the members using one at his shop. I saw this Ryobi drill press at home depot and it seems like it'll work out great for the price! Any of yall ever experienced this drill press?

I've never used the Ryobi drill press but I can say that I'm a huge fan of Ryobi tools in general. In my opinion the best consumer grade power tools available. If you want professional grade tools, that's a different story and a whole lot more money.

I pretty much have the same opinion as Theseus. I have a Delta myself and I'm happy with it. I have other Ryobi tools and they have been well made and have held up over time. Its a good brand. I think you would be fine with any of he major brands. Delta, Ryobi, Hitachi, Dewalt, etc. I have tools from all those brands and they have all been good products.
I have not been very impressed with the last few Black & Decker tools I have bought though.

Mine's a Skill but like Ray said, all the entry level drill presses from known brands are very decent and do a perfect job, especially for our use. I also have a laser tracking on mine but never used it. The only thing I have replaced on my drill press is a quality keyless drill chuck.

I have this drill press and have used it for razor work. Works great. It's what it is, an affordable tool but obviously not the best drill press on the planet due to the cost. All the bits that I care about are well made and work great. I don't find I can really rely on the laser, but I don't personally give a crap about lasers on machines anyways, I've never trusted them.
Edit: Oh! I just read Max's post above, that's the one thing that bugs me! No dedicated spot to stick the chuck key. Maybe also buy yourself one of the addon holders you'll find in the tool department.Last edited by RobertH; 02-13-2012 at 05:09 PM.
