    Default Help with CA finish

Can someone help me with putting a CA finish on Cocobolo scales I made. I put a couple coats on sanding with 400 grit between them and it looks like crap. How do you'll do it one side at a time (top then bottom) or hang though pinning hole? I think the CA just keeps pulling oil up to surface of the wood but could be wrong. If there is a successful way of doing this whole process PLEASE share!

At the top of this Sub-forum "The Workshop" is a Sticky in Red

Start there for all things "Restoration" Max and I keep it updated constantly

As you have figured out, Cocobolo is very oily. CA may not be the best finish for this wood. I use Tung Oil when I use it. That being said, try wiping it with lacquer thinner before you apply CA the first time - that usually does the trick. You will probably have to sand off what you have all ready applied. A picture of what happened would help - "looks like crap" means different things to different folks.
