    Default temper test?

Ok, so I was using a buffing wheel for the first full on attempt to save a stained blade without hours of handsanding. I got a little aggressive maybe. It was a pretty flexy blade before hand. Are there other tell tale signs besides blueing that I've lost temper? It just happened once, but it got HOT...that one time. Not enough to burn my skin, but hot enough to make me snap my hand back...Thoughts? No blueing occurred.

You'd need to be above 390 F to cause problems. Be careful, and cool in water often.

    +1 and

As always the shave test will tell you.
If you can sharpen, strop and shave with the razor
to your satisfaction life is good and the temper right.

Carbon steel can be too hard for a good razor.
Like the three bears... too hot, too cold, JUST RIGHT.
You may have moved it to perfection. A month
of shaving and the occasional touch up on your hone
and daily visits to the strop and face will tell you more.
