    Question Future Projects

    Hi All,

I just got some old blades (6 of them), but they are in bad shape and I intend to restore them some time in the (hopefully not to) distant future . Basically, I'm just woundering what information you could give me about storing them till I do. All I know is that you should put oil on the blades. But is simething like WD40 OK or would I need something more specific? Also, there a bit of rusting on some that I would like to stop getting any worse. Anything I can do for that?

    Cheers for the info.

I would suggest taking off any active rust and coating the razor in oil. Mineral oil should be fine, but i believe any oil would do. As long as they are blades only, I don't think it would be a problem. Store in a dry environment.

There are complete razors (blades and scales).

I'll second Matt's advice. Use mineral oil. It's cheap, available in any pharmacy and not as risky to use as WD40 (it can damage some finishes). He also gave you good advice on stabilizing rust before storing them.

One of the best oils I've found to help with cleanup is Kroil. You can get it at Brownell's. Put it on, let it soak a bit, and a lot of the rust will come off easier. It's a very thin penetrating oil.
