Default First attempt at restoration complete.

    John Heiffer Sheffield wedge.

All sanding and polishing done by hand. This was done with the (I'm pretty certain) ivory scales left on. There are no washers on the pins and I didn't want to do any damage "learning" on them. There is quite a bit of pitting left along the shank as the scales were left on and the makers mark was already very faint. Pitting along spine and near the top of the toe had to be left. Character I suppose. Anyway here is is my first go round.

    Before

    After

    alb1981 and Mephisto like this.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with leaving a little "character" on an old beauty like that.
Great job on the restoration, it looks like it cleaned up real nice.
Scales look like ivory to me, and having no washers seems common with old ivory scales too.

Yeah I have no problem with character it's way better than going too far with metal removal.

I sanded from 80 180 220 320 400 600 800 1000 1500 2000 Than Maas on a rag. I couldn't find anything locally between 1000 and 1500 or 1500 to 2000 so I just tried to work with what I had. I defiantly learned a few things to do different next time. But am happy with the results all in all as this razor is for me to use and not a show piece. The perfectionist in my had to let a few things go for this round. I'm sure if I had a better camera some of it may show.

I'd be very happy with that as a first, especially as a blade attached resto. More work involved.
Scales look good too. Wise move leaving them on.

Honing is my next thing to learn so this razor will be going out for honing initially while I learn on something else.
