    Default Washer preference for pinning

I am interested in finding out restorers preferences for washers for pinning new scales.

    1. Is there a preference for stainless and nickel silver over brass, or the reverse?

    2. Which brass washers?
    A. Very small Flat washer #00 .050x.109x.015
    B. Smaller Flat washer #0 .065x.125x.017?
    C. Larger Flat washer wide .062x.188x.01?
    D. Something else?

    3. Which stainless washers?
    A. Smaller Flat washer #0?
    B. Larger Flat washer .062x.125x.017?
    C. Something else?

    4. Also, does anyone stack a smaller washer on top of a larger washer for pinning?

    5. How many people use a stainless teaspoon or tablespoon for pinning instead of a ball peen hammer?

I just recently got into restoring and so far I find that when I look at a razor and the scales that I am doing and certain washers and pins just pop out at me. I haven't stacked washers yet, but from some of the photos of others they look nice when done. Oh and I've only used brass, stainless and I made some sterling silver washers to go with nickel silver pins. As for size I use #0 for the pins and #0 wide washers for the spacers. As for stacking washers I would use two different sizes depending on what look I was going for. I've never used a spoon for pinning. I use a 4oz hammer, but my peening needs work they do not come out as well as I'd like.

The info you seek is in the Restore Oracle Thread

    http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...wers-here.html

If it is a "Vintage" restore I use what I took off and re-produce the look as close as I can using all 4 different washers...

ie: If Brass comes off Brass goes on same with Nickel Silver pins

If it is a "Custom" restore than I use what I think or the customer thinks looks better

I only restore for myself but I think that qualifies me.

1.I try to match it to original, within the scope of my current skill level.
    2.I think they're #00
3.Never saw a vintage razor with stainless washers. So I guess none of the above.
4.Yes, people do that. Soembody even made a video and put it in that thread Gssixgun referenced I believe.
    5.Not me.

I am new to pinning razors back together, but have done quite a bit of hand riveting, which involves peening over the rivet similar to razor stuff. It seems that no matter what the tool experience helps you develop the right touch no matter what tool you are using.
