Thanked: 2Meh....If you keep your hands clean and use a respirator, lead is a minor concern. You need to injest or inhale it. It doesn't get absorbed through the epidermis iirc.
Tl;dr - fear of lead is overblown.

If working with lead, proper procedures allowed, I should'v been dead, toes up, years ago!! I don't know how many lead projectiles I have cast in years past, in both 45ACP 357mag 38specail[same diameter] and other calibres.
ALLways wore gloves and use to good fans to keep the fumes from the pots flowing away from my breathing.
Take a chance in life, Columbus did!!!
With all Sincerety and good humor, tinkersd

Thanked: 247Havachat, aluminum is pretty well toxic when it's heated enough to give off fumes. You might look into it. OTOH, I'd be interested to know how you do it. I'm looking for something I can cast or pound into shape. Sanding tiny wedges is something I'm having extreme trouble with.

Go to just about any local machine shop, fab shop or scrap yard and just ask. They will usually have an assortment of small scraps they will give or sell you for cheap. Probably most common metals and some exotics from time to time.
