Thanked: 114I have found that lettering can be sanded off of most scales. I sand off the lettering with 220 or 400 grit sandpaper. Once off, I resand the scales through 2000 grit and replish with plastic compound. The result is a clean looking set of scales 99% of the time.

are you talking about removing the bolsters/lettering to reuse? In any event, acetone will take the metal inlays off scales easily. No damage to scales or inlays

Thanked: 13245Sorry it took so long, but uploading vids when you live in the boonies is a joke at best on Hughes Net, I went into town to the PO so I stopped at Starbucks and used their WiFi
This is the fastest and safest way I have found, you can skip the soak and just use a small paintbrush to dab the Acetone on but it doesn't work quite as fast or as well IME..
Two points I make in the Vid but will reiterate here
1. Buy yer own Bowl/Container the SWMBO will KILL you dead if you wreck her good stuff
2. Cut the scale down to minimum size before you soak it, or it makes a mushy, sticky, mess
