Simple electric stove/Heat treat oven design?
Has anyone here ever built a heat treat oven using parts from an electric stove?
Here is my Manifest:
-Working stove (strictly for the guts)
-Pyrometer
-Short list, no?
The housing for all this is not relevant as of now, Firebricks could easily be used.
So, If I was to install one or two electric stovetop elements (1200-1500watts each capable of 1600f) into a suitable enclosure, using the dial to controll the heat according to the pyrometer? (placement would be critical I assume) Am I way off here? If theres one thing I learned in my life, its never as easy as it looks
I would also have the flexibility to temper in this oven. The stoves timer would be a bonus!
SWMBO wife denied my request for even the smallest readily available oven, but Im quite sure I can build one.
Id appreciate your thoughts/ suggestions,
Thanks!

The objective is to reach 1400f for approximately 15 mins, and have the versatility to cruise at about 400f for 2 hrs

I have seen online plans for electric heat treat ovens, but did not try to make one.
For me a small forge was the easiest way to get into heat treating.

Thanked: 9You have to go slightly over that for some stainless steel, and with good tempertature control as well (they are kind of picky). Most plans I've seen are for guys that start from scratch, with high alumina bricks, make their own coil, and get the controls (pyrometer and probe) to work on it.
