I wouldn't even let it sit for more than a couple min at most myself. It started to take the finish off of the scales, but polished it up easily afterwards. If the scales weren't once piece I wouldn't have even used it. Easy to clean scales that come apart.

Thought I would update my findings. The smell is gone just a faint scent of camphor, but I don't see any rust build up or anything so I guess the scales are ok. I think the scrubbing bubbles just made the smell. Guess it is time to finish cleaning the blade and set it in my ready to hone pile. I have been dying to hone and shave with this razor. The other suspect set of scales though I threw those out cause it looked like some rust build up from those. Thanks to everyone for all the info.
