Default which grit sandpaper use to clean this razor?

Polished it with some Flitz and woolpad #000..didnt do so much as far as removing anything..made the metal a bit shinier..tarnish/dark rust still there
Etching has some marks on it..I want to keep the etching in 100% intact if possible..I have sheet grits 80-2k

Hi, I'm a total beginner too, I started my first blade restoration too last night, as you can see from the before pic it had lots of rust spots and took about 4 and a half hours to get to where I am now, as I'm doing it all by hand because I have no buffer. I had to start with 240 grit to get the worst off, then progressed to 320 dry. I then used 400 wet and carried on with 500, 600, 800, 1200, 1500, 2000 and finally 2500. All wet. There are still scratch marks visible on the blade and you can see where the rust has been faintly. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for getting a better finish with products available in the uk?

Start a couple steps up from your lowest grit, and see where they gets you. If you need more, go lower.
