    when pinning a razor what it the purpose of the ball hammer rather than the flat side. What is the differents.

    You want to deform the rod you are using as a pin so it won't fit back through the hole (like a home made rivet), but without bending the rod in the middle. This is better done with the ball end of the hammer than the flat end. Keeping the taps light will also help out, and moving the hammer (to strike all over the head of the rod) will help keep things even.

    The ball end is simply used used to blend in edges of the pin around the circumferrance of the pin to the washer,nothing more.

    .........because when I hit my fingers with the ball end; it does not hurt as much, as with the larger flat end.
