possible restoration
my dad pulled this out of his night stand for me on a recent visit. Its and A.J. Jordan either from St. Louis or Sheffield ( writing is so worn i cant make out last letters on bottom.) It belonged to my great-great grandfather and I would love to try and get it back up to speed. The blade needs to go, it has pitting and heavy corrosion, and looks like they have been honed down quite abit, but the scales are great without one single crack in them. Any ideas about a new blade replacement and where to get new pins. I was thinking of doing something in a 6/8 if possible. Sorry about the pics, kinda of crappy quality.

You might be able to find that make of razor on eBay. Also, those scales are a dime a dozen on eBay too!
I'd say, keep the razor for a keepsake (maybe have it polished up, and oil it to keep it from rusting away). Then watch eBay for that razor. You might have to find the blade and scales separate, and then pin the combination.... With some patience, I'm sure you'll get it.
Personally, I think it would be great to use the same razor, even if it's only the same make, that my grandfather might have used....

razor restoration
wow, thats cool even though a 120 year old piece of family history now seems cheapend since the parts can be gotten off ebay for a dime a dozen.

Not at all!
These were not as rare then as they are today. The one's that are availible today on eBay are the ones from then (does that make sense?). It's not like you would be buying a replica (like the Masonic replica razors that don't shave but are just something to look at). The only difference with eBay ad scouring antique shops is that eBay makes your selection easier with a more concentrated population!
It'll still be a razor from the time your great grandfather 'could' have bought it. Only it will not be 'the' razor he bought.
Also, as Bill pointed out, the scales have already been replaced on this one. You might find the original razor brand, intact, before the scales had to be replaced.
