Default Brass pin wth silver washer?

I have a couple of restores to do (for myself) and I don't have any NS pin stock, but I am going to attempt to save the original washers on a matched pair of razors, is this bad form? Anyone have any pics of this combination? I was also considering using copper pin stock for a little different look. What say you?

Personally I think that there is no ‘bad form’! Years ago a TV chef said that the key to ‘Creative Cooking’ was to omit and substitute!

    Go for it!

If I can find it, I’ll send you the link to the member who used the innards of a circuit board with clear layered over it for scales! Different? You Bet! Unique Yes! Cool? Oh yea!

Yes! I like doing that! as long as it is not an original restore which does not require it. I feel the collar must be larger when doing so. Here is a Bengall I pinned with Bronze pins and silver collars. The pics are of it freshly done, however the bronze pin takes on a gold look as time goes on. Some old Sheffields were originally pinned with brass pins and silver or steel collars. Whatever you like!

My Great Grandfather's W&B had the steel washers and brass pins. If I knew how to post just a pic I would but since I don't I'll post the link to Glen's work on it. I'm not trying to hijack the post! Honest!

Cuda - I've seen the circuit board scales, those were way cool!

Sharp - well yes it will be a restore of original razors, but I am going to pair them as a "weekend set." They are just two of the same razor, not from a set originally. Nothing super old or majorly nice, just some great shavers in good condition with plastic scales.

Here are the razors, you can see the scales are slightly different, some shaping on the ends and the stamping is much deeper on one. They are Spike branded Union Cutlery. I am going to fill the scale stamp with paint as well, likely in two colors to differentiate between them. Or just replace the wedge, one is chipped just a little.

Get a hold of my friend Mike (mjhammer) as he's restored several (7 at least) Spikes! He's a great guy and I'm very proud to have him as my friend!

Ultimately, it's all about what pleases your eye. I have mixed brass pins with stainless washers and NS pins with brass washers. I think both combinations look nice, especially on black scales.

Here's my Nickel pins with brass and stainless steel washers, sometimes It's good to mix these things up, what I've found with modern restorers as we have on this forum is that their pinning is far better executed than the original workers who put them together.
