Thanks. It all started with a slab of Bocote and a hand coping saw. Then LOTS of hand sanding with numerous grits of sandpaper.

Someday I'll break down and get some fancy machines to make the work quicker

The blade which has no name came from the gratuitous DIY GUY, just honed it up (had to work a small chip out I inflicted). It's popping hairs 1/2" off the leg so I'm hoping it'll shave nice.

I use this setup to buff my pins out after peening. I cut the side out of a soda can and made holes that just fit over the washers. It protects my scales, if I slide off with the buffer. I really like this buffing pad, I get it at Sally's Beauty Supply. It will actually round out the peen hits and polish out scratches with the white side.

The soda can looks like it'll hold up well. I'll give that a try too.

Interesting discussion regarding polishing pins. I always like the "jeweling" of the peen marks. There is something truly special about the tiny marks that show something was done really well by hand. YMMV

Unit, you're right. After looking at them a bit longer, I do kinda like seeing the peen marks. they're actually very small and difficult to see unless really looking hard.

Thank for all the info fellas!

Btw, it shaved amazing this morning. That's always a plus lol

    Great!

I think in time you will be glad you saved them. You can always look back and review your first set of pins!

I could polish up a set of pins and make them look the same as someone's 5000th set of pins that was similarly polished. But the real story is what gets polished away.

On special razors I feel the same love for patina and scratches (FWIW)

I like the "facets" from peening too but won't be shy to borrow the coke can idea if needed.
I actually use a piece of suede or whatever with a hole punched in it whilst peening.
