    Default grinder update

    good day to all,

right now i want to upgrade my grinder. I have had it for years and its time to change the motor.
I want to get a motor with the following specs
    -Enclosure: TEFC
    Phase: 3
    Hz: 60
    Frame: 56C
Have looked at Baldors, and found one on here that is compatible https://www.mrosupply.com/product/69...eneral_Purpose
what do you think of Baldors? what are the alternatives? What are you using and do you like what you have?
    Thanks!

My motor is a GE 3hp, 3 phase, closed frame, 1756 rpm, 182T frame, stock number K-290, type K. Contoller LG, iS3 "space vector controler" Motor purchased used for $150. Love the setup. Does everything I want it. Good luck in your search.

I do not have any for making razors... I do have around 100 motors of various brands under my watch at work. Baldor is a fine motor. Honestly, being as we are talking 3 phase, just be sure that the bearings are replaceable and I cannot think of a brand that I would not trust or buy.

Oh, I have two 5HP Baldors that needed to be rebuilt earlier this year- 6 months after installation. The service techs used too much grease on them and they run 24/7. Believe it or not, you actually have to follow the directions when it comes to greasing them (use very little especially if it is not run full time) or you may find yourself replacing bearings far sooner than would otherwise be necessary (the 3HP that were replaced had been in since 1996 until earlier this year with no issues.) It may seem strange- but too much grease is actually worse for some motors than not using any...

I just clicked your link... That seems pretty expensive to me (granted, I get them at wholesale, but my 5HP, 3phase 375v Baldors were less than that...) I did a quick check and the same motor can be had for $200 less at other places online so shop around a little. The suppliers usually have a lot of room to move on these from the MSRP.

You probably need to supply a few more specs in order to find the exact motor... I know you had asked for alternatives. Lately I have been buying a fair number of AO Smith motors (lots of HVAC lately...) They are made in China (really, what is not made there anymore?) but they are a pretty good quality and not a bad price. You can find a very comprehensive search tool for your exact motor where you fill in all of your specs here A.O.Smith Electrical Products Company

Also, Teco-Westinghouse makes a pretty good motor. Although their site is not nearly as user friendly, you should be able to find what you need here. TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company: Stock Motors | Three Phase TEFC Motors

As mentioned above, GE is still a runner in the motor market although I can honestly say that I do not think I have a single one...

Best of luck. If you are in Alberta PM me and I can get you what you need.
