Default Help-Where To Get Pins & Washers?

I am cleaning up a nice 11/16 Rogers & Sons razor that I picked up for my 16 year old son. I want to get it looking good, clean, and polished, which will require removal of the scales. So, where can I pick up a 1/16th rod and washers for repinning? Any thoughts? I live in Northern California, with lots of places to shop, I just don't know where to go. Looking for some ideas. I'd rather not order something online. Thanks.

A good hardware store will have 1/16 brass rod. They may have O 80 size washers. Good luck. Also try a hobby store that has a model railroad department. I use O 80 screws during the mock up stage of the process - they are 1/16th in diameter.

There is a repository of information here in the How Do I sticky of the workshop forum.

I just purchased a bunch of brass #0 washers from Small Parts for about $8.00 shipped.

The 1/16 rod stock I bought from Texas Knife Supply. They carry brass, copper, nickel silver, varying grades of stainless and some others non-metals. The stock is reasonably priced; the shipping was average. It didn't break the bank and I have enough en route to do 20+ razors for about $12.00. They also carry the ultra-fine 3M polishing paper/mesh (up to 8000 grit) for $1.25/sheet and it doesn't seem to alter the shipping cost.

If you really want to avoid online shopping, I found everything I needed at my local Ace Hardware, but the rod stock came in really large quantities and, for as much as I love working on straights, I can't foresee using 15 feet of 1/16 brass rod stock in the near future. [Note: that's a 5 pack at 36" ea., not a single long rod.]

Hope that gives a little insight and best of luck with the restoration!

I just got mine from Brad, aka Undream, off ebay. He's a member here also. I was really happy with them.

Microfasteners has the washers you'll need and the brass rod can be found at most hobby shops.
