Thread: Blade pulling to one side in scales

I've got an old Satin Edge Dubl Duck that belonged to my great-grandpa and it actually shaves very well.

However, the blade pulls to one side in the scales and I have to be very careful when I close it.

I saw on Lynn's video that to correct this, you use a jeweler's anvil and small hammer and tap the pin to re-swage it.

If the blade is pulling to one side, is there anything special in the way one taps on the pin? Other than lightly? Could there be a point where tapping isn't going to correct the problem and something else must be done to fix it?

This is the only razor I have with this issue so I thought maybe I'd ask before destroying a family heirloom.

I agree with Bill.
However, I'd be a bit reluctant to heat treat the 'Satin' variety of duck scales. Those scales are usually clear celluloid and most apt to degrade (versus colored celluloid).
Being an heirloom and most likely from the 'cellulid era', Heat might be the end of them.

I know this is not much help, but is a bit of caution.

I think I'll give it a few light taps (the blade swings a little bit loose in the scales) and see what happens. If it doesn't pull it back any, I'll do exactly what Bill suggested and live with it. Since I'm the only one using the razor, I know that I need to be careful when I close it.
