Thread: Giesen & Forsthoff "Prosperity" Custom

I picked this Giesen & Forstoff up (blade only) very recently in a batch of pretty decent razors from eBay, quite an attractive looking blade with the worked tang.

I couldn't find info. for this particular model, my best guess would be 1940's/1950's.


I thought it deserved something classy so opted for probably my favourite scale material - black water buffalo horn and a more contemporary form.

A bit of work with the fretsaw and drum sander...


The scales were shaped before final sanding so the process would soften the edges a little (from 800 thru' to 2500 grit)

I used a piece of 2mm aluminum for the wedge and to maintain the black and silver theme I used 1/16" nickle silver pins at the wedge & bushes at the pivot with brass bearings, well pleased with the finished result!

I believe Giesen & Forsthoff are still and business but their modern razors are somewhat inconsistant in quality however I'm glad to say that this one honed up no problem at all and is a pretty decent razor.

G&F have served me well. I have a modern G&F and I've been told by reliable sources that Dovo also source some of their blades from G&F.

Great job on the blade and the scales. Needed some insipiration today. I'm resting my hands after some "fun time" sanding an old wade and butcher. Wasn't looking forward to getting back on the horse so to speak.
