    Default Unexpected Bolster Removal

I guess I should start at the beginning and explain where everything went horribly wrong. I got a S.R. Droescher razor that had some warped scales so I thought I would try and straighten them. This is where is all started to go wrong. I thought I would try the hot water method so I boiled some water and just dunked the scales in to where the bend was. Anyway with me holding the razor and gravity pulling the newly soft and malleable scales down it made the warp worse. So I thought I would make a jig to mount the scales to so they wouldn't move anywhere I didn't want them to and it worked out really well. There was still a slight bend so I softened them up again and finished straightening them out. Well when I went to see how the blade sat in the scales I noticed that the bolsters were hanging off the edge. That is when I noticed that the scales just shrunk and one of the bolsters popped off when I touched it. Well now I have a new problem. So I figured the scales were shot so I decided to remove the bolsters. I figured if the boiling water made one pop off should make the others. So I let them sit in the boiling water for awhile and what do you know the bolsters just pealed off the scales. Now I have to make new scales and try to put the newly freed bolsters on the scales. Well needless to say this is somewhere I haven't been before so it should be interesting. To think I was looking forward to honing this razor and shaving with it, but now it will have to sit for a couple weeks. I just thought I would post this in case someone needs to remove bolsters cause this seemed to work really well even though it WASN'T what I wanted. I guess jumping head first into something blind isn't so bad when you were actually pushed into it. Now I have two razors that need work that I haven't even thought of attempting before waiting for my attention. The other razor has a wooden tang that I plan on trying to replace. First time I have even seen that, but I thought that alone would be enough, but I guess I thought wrong.
