Interesting, one of my favorite recipes is basically 3lb browned shank or blade steak, 1 cup beef broth, 1 cup red wine, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 sliced onion, 1/2 lb sliced mushrooms. Put it in a pressure pot and process at 15 psi for 27 min. Then quickly cool the pot, I prefer to remove the pressure regulating weight. Serve over rice or noodles.

The point is that the bones that go in come out nearly free of attachments and seem to be free of oil/grease. I have saved a few for use as wedges when I start re-scaling. Perhaps the best part would be that it smells wonderful. I have no idea if they will yellow in a few years, but it may be worth a try.

I do my bones one of two ways:

The preferred method, if I happen to be travelling near ny buddy's taxidermy shop is to bring the bones and have him put them in with his dermestid (sp?) beetles. They eat everything but the bone.

The alternative is to leave them in my back garage for about a year and let the flies and maggots take care of the dirty work.

Neither method is fast, but both work well with minimal labor on my part.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Boiling bones and meat, smells like home to me.
From their stillness came their non-action...Doing-nothing was accompanied by the feeling of satisfaction, anxieties and troubles find no place

Once the bones are processed yes power helps for me, but at the beginning I find power tools a hindrance

This has got me a bit inspired. I want to try and make a set, but I don't have any power tools, jigsaw or anything.

I'm wondering how tough it would be with a hand saw.

    Not that hard.
You can saw it rather easily with a hacksaw, and file it with a carpenters file or rasp.
Then finish with sandpaper wrapped around a stick. It's not the quickest way to work, but it is doable.
