Glen's place
Sailor's place

Interesting, one of my favorite recipes is basically 3lb browned shank or blade steak, 1 cup beef broth, 1 cup red wine, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 sliced onion, 1/2 lb sliced mushrooms. Put it in a pressure pot and process at 15 psi for 27 min. Then quickly cool the pot, I prefer to remove the pressure regulating weight. Serve over rice or noodles.
The point is that the bones that go in come out nearly free of attachments and seem to be free of oil/grease. I have saved a few for use as wedges when I start re-scaling. Perhaps the best part would be that it smells wonderful. I have no idea if they will yellow in a few years, but it may be worth a try.

I do my bones one of two ways:
The preferred method, if I happen to be travelling near ny buddy's taxidermy shop is to bring the bones and have him put them in with his dermestid (sp?) beetles. They eat everything but the bone.
The alternative is to leave them in my back garage for about a year and let the flies and maggots take care of the dirty work.
Neither method is fast, but both work well with minimal labor on my part.

Re: Boiling bone
This has got me a bit inspired. I want to try and make a set, but I don't have any power tools, jigsaw or anything.
I'm wondering how tough it would be with a hand saw. When the Dude is recognized in the world, unDudeness will be seen everywhere--- the Dude de Ching

Not that hard.
You can saw it rather easily with a hacksaw, and file it with a carpenters file or rasp.
Then finish with sandpaper wrapped around a stick. It's not the quickest way to work, but it is doable.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
