Black Electrical Tape Tanished My Razor. ??
I picked up a Kropp from the Classifieds and was sufficiently intimidated bythe size but finally used it and loved it. The pins were in rough/ragged shape so I taped over the edge with electrical tape to protect myself and set about re-pinning and replacing all the parts as I'm keeping this one for sure. Turned out beautiful but when I removed the tape there was some light tarnish that exactly matched the tape placement. Tape was on there about 2 hours. I used Flitz and it brightened up a bit but is still there.
Any experience with this? What tape would be better for this type use in the future? I tape my spines when I'm honing and have never seen this before.
??
Thanks in advance for any/all information!
Shawn

Thanked: 13247I have seen this with some of the Cheaper Hardware brands, but I have never had a problem with 3M.. Just to qualify though if the razor is at all wet/damp then it doesn't matter 2 hours will cause a problem with any tape..
If I need to cover an edge, which honestly is rare, I use the Blue Painters tape myself..

Good point... I honestly have no idea how old the tape was or what brand... It was just one of the dozen or more floating around my garage or tool box at the time. Aside from finger printing/oiling it was dry when I placed the tape. I thought about the Painter's Blue but was so eager to get going just went with it.
Now that makes me wonder if electrical tape is the world's easiest/cheapest way to force a patina. ???
