Feather Face Lift
This topic isn't really a restoration but more like a makeover.
I bought a feather while waiting on my first shave ready straight to arrive and still use it occasionally for a change of pace. I have never liked the look of the razor, it's just to sterile with the factory plastic handle and brushed SS blade/holder. I had some time on my hands so I thought I would give it a face lift.
I replaced the original handle with some real nice wenge I have and gave them a 10 coat CA finish with a polished aluminum wedge. I wanted to go pin-less at the wedge so I roughed it up with 150 applied a CA designed for use with metal.
I also completely sanded the blade (blade holder) down to 1200 removing all the brushed marks and polished to a mirror chrome like finish. Once it was done I really didn't care for the chrome look so I re-brushed the area that is hollowed warming it up a bit.
Anyway I'm pretty happy with the result.

Miles, you did it almost exactly the way I would have wanted to do it had I owned one. I've used Dave's AC (thanks Dave ) for a week so I had plenty of time to think about the technicalities of the process. The difference is the pinless wedge (no complaints, I just didn't come up with the idea lol). But I just don't see anyone giving you any grief for using that thing of beauty.

Killer piece, Miles. My feather has the laminated wood handles, or I'd be doing makeover on it, too. Yours is superb.

Thanked: 4942Miles,
WOWZA......Very Cooool. You're gonna give the Feather guys in Japan some new ideas. How did the new scales effect the feel of the Feather?
I still can't use these things as I get a few new nicks every time I try.
They are poity though........hahahahahaha.
Happy New Year,

You know, I'd hate to say it, since it's not a true straight razor, but that looks great!
Almost makes me want to buy an AC Feather..... and have you make a set of scales for it!
