Thanked: 480Getting Brave!
Got this a little while ago. It was a beautiful case of Ebay-itus
Photos made it look great, reality didnt match. The bottom half of the blade had been hit to a grinder on both sides leaving gouging running parallel to the edge.
I started to hand sand, and came to the realization I was going to be there way way longer than I wanted to be. I know a few of you guys will appreciate my ambition here....
An ACTUAL regrind!
grind stone, and mounted it on a shaft in my ancient tabletop lathe. Proceded to dress it down to the size of the radius of the blade face, and began dry honing. For anybody who wants to calculate the speed of the wheel, it is a 1750 rpm motor turning a 1.5" pully, running to a 6" pully, and the wheel itself is down to about 5.5 "
I started on the back side, as this was the worst, and I figured if I cant do this side, I cant do the front! After I finished, I realized I had not taken any pics, so I stopped, came up here, and posted these. I think its going pretty good so far! Wish I had an extra fine wheel, I sort of like the brushed satin finish.

Thanked: 1263I know absolutely zilch about regrinding, but the pics look good so far. I'm sure someone that knows something will chime in with comments/advice.

Thanked: 480Here it is, mostly finished.
I gave it a light hand sanding with 600 grit. (thats the horizontal scratches you see) Must have been some stray grit particles at the end.
Not going any further with it until I take a shave to be sure its worth the effort. Judging from early testing, its looking really good!

Re: Getting Brave!
It looks okay from here, is there some bit of a frown there or is that just the light and camera playing tricks?

Thanked: 480camera tricks. It actually has a very slight smile.
I will get better pics, and a shot of the "not really a grinder" setup
I'm a "make do with what you got" kind of guy.
