    Question Inox... no so inox.

    Hi all!

I purchase a used dovo razor. Inox, its written. The fact is, a little part seems oxide.
How i can clean this? a cotton and alcohol will do? or in deed is some kind of metal degradation?

I read, and saw in the dovo factory, that the razor blade is one (no parts).
So, if its stainless steel, should be all the razor inox, right?
Maybe need a polish, maybe its a surface oxidation, i dont know.
As far as i know, in the factory, the steel is mixed with chromium, so...
looks weird that all the blade is perfect shine, and a little part with copper color.

I attach a jpeg to check.
    Thanks for your replies.

    ve nice day!

    LM.

P.S.: As is used, i must sterilize it ? alcohol, acid, heat... how ?
    Thx again!

    Hi LM!

Someone sure gave that a good grinding!

Stainless steel (INOX) does, in fact, tarnish - but not as much as the usual carbon steel and to a lesser extent. The chromium forms a 'passivation' layer of an oxide which helps the steel resist corrosion.

It's hard to say from the pics what that is on the jimps - it looks like a couple of raised areas on my screen, It could be a brass wire wheel was used on it and some of the brass got left on it. If it is, some metal polish might get it off.

The finish on the blade looks pretty coarse, so you really want to take care with it - the grind lines will trap moisture.

Alcohol or a strong spirit will sterilise the blade, but it shouldn't really need anything - most nasties can't survive for long outside the body and I would have thought that if the blade has been worked on and honed it should be safe. Alcohol should be safe on modern scales, but if in doubt keep it off them. Don't use heat - not a good idea.

Once it is clean to your satisfaction it might be best to lightly coat it with a light application of a thin mineral oil - like sewing machine oil, or ballistol - ballistol is mildy disinfectant too, and it mixes with water so you don't have to wipe it off scrupulously.

    Regards,
    Neil

It almost looks like somebody ground off the tang stamps and Goldwash and left some Goldwash in the jimps

That is my guess from the pics, I might chnage my mind if it were in hand

I do know if stainless is ground with a wheel which has been used on carbon steel, the stainless will rust like carbon. Right where it was ground! While not a big Dovo fan, I cannot see any defects which were from manufacture, but definitely some from abuse. JMO

    Hello.

    Thanks to all the answers!

Is there any similar to this that i can get in a normal hardware shop?
Machine oil will be like the Exxon motor oil?

I add two more pictures about the inox, and 2 more about other razor that i have (in totally bad condition).
Any ideas for cleaning this and repair the second one?
Please dont give me brands, also tell me exactly what is it. For example, ballistol is in the internet, but not in my city.

    Thanks again to all!!!

I don't want to appear facetious, but I think that razor is long overdue for razor heaven - we should celebrate it's good days, give praise for the shaves it has given, and let it go peacefully.

Seriously though, you can get sewing machine oil almost any where - it isn't a brand name, just a very thin oil that is used on sewing machines. Motor oil is much too thick - and smelly. You want a very thin oil, almost as thin as water. If you cant get oil just use vaseline or something similar and smear it on very thin, wipe with a paper towel before you shave, and Bob's your uncle. Bob is not a trade name, BTW!

It really looks like someone ground the hell out of that!

Maybe a knife guy trying to sharpen it with a belt sander?

Hey, worn down to a shadow of its former self it may be, but if it still shaves, (especially if it is an heirloom) who are we to say "its over" ??

As long as his face is happy!
