Thread: Advice on restoring my first W & B

I won this Wade and Butcher on ebay today and would like some advice on how to proceed with a basic restoration of this razor when I receive it.

I was thinking of doing a minimalist restoration by simply hand sanding followed by metal polish before honing it. As for the scales, I am hoping that I could somehow seal the crack and give it some shine. I have never honed a razor of this type before and hope it won't be too difficult.

Your thoughts and suggestions judging on the photos are greatly appreciated.

You're lucky since all of the black stuff is at the top of the blade and the crack is at the wedge end, not the pivot. I'd start with a bit of 0000 wool with a bit of oil or break free on it for the corrosion. Then I'd go to a good metal polish on paper towels, q-tips and the like. Hand sanding is a very time consuming chore. A buddy of mine used to say it was like 10 hours through progressive grits until it was ready for buffing. That was a deal breaker for me. How I learned to stop worrying about corrosion and love the pits.
