Is this Rust?
Hi guys sorry for yet another annoying question,
I'm trying to determine what is this stuff ont he blade is it rust/tarnish is it the dreaded devil's spit?
I see this kind of thing on razors now and then and I wonder whether to bid or not, hoping someone can tell me whether this would be difficult to get off by hand sanding or buffer etc. ?

Take a little 0000 wool with a bit of oil on it and rub it out. It may be the d-spit or it might just be surface rust and gunk.

I've just seen that it has celluloid lookn scales
could be cell rot u think?

Not sure. With all that black stuff on the bevel I don't know if I would chance it.
