Default Razor chipped. How to repair?

    Hey gents,

I am going to try and restore an old Sheffield straight. It's a fine piece of steel.
The end of it is chipped. How would I go about fixing it?

You can probably smooth that up on a DMT 325 or the side of a 1k hone, even some Wet-r-Dry sandpaper on the bench..

If you need even more, then a Belt Grinder would be the next step

    Nice looking razor!
I would bet that is has great potential as a shaver too.
I would consider removing metal from both the edge and the tip.
If you hold a straight piece of paper to the edge you will see that it is a slightly smiling edge, while the spine appears to be straight.
I would remove some of the french point characteristics and some of the smile.
You will have to take the smile into consideration when honing it.

I would do as little as possible and try it. You can't put metal back once it's gone :<0) Looks like you got a winner.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
