Thanked: 2027craigslist,any electric motor can be rebuilt, are pretty simple things unless it is totally burned up.
I just re-built my golf cart motor because I will not pay 400 bux for a new one, turn the armiture on the lathe, two new brushes, two bearings, 21 bux out the door.
My question to you is,why in the hell do you need a three phase motor on a grinder?

Thanked: 1936That's the part that I didn't understand, I thought any motor could be rebuilt. I bought it literally brand new from a motor shop in a Durant, OK near the railroad tracks. I stopped the train and went over there, he had just bought out a electric motor shop and had that one on the shelf & I bought it. Two years later, I get the rest of the stuff for completion of the grinder in a box like Brad/Undream built years ago. I want three phase for the vfd & I want vfd (variable frequency drive) for infinite speed control. So far, this is the best price I can find, but need to find out how much on the shipping as it can range from a fair $30-40 to outrageous: (VM3558) 2 Hp, 230/460 Vac, 3 Phase, 56C Frame, C-Face, 1800 Rpm - Baldordirect, your home for Baldor Motors & Drives

Thanked: 1936There may be other ways, but why consider other ways when this is my original plan as I WANT a full range of speed, especially slower speeds. I've always regretted veering from my original plan and shortcutting. Sure, there are pulley's and all, but why when I already have the vfd, grinder, wheels...just need ANOTHER motor...one that works this time.
The motor that literally didn't do anything acted as though there was an open in it somewhere like the windings. It is a Dayton, heck, still have the drive wheel on it even though it's sitting in the carport. I took the vfd and motor to a local electrical repair shop and they said bad motor, non fixable...but nothing else. I don't know if they thought I would just order a new one (I hate how you are judged by what you drive and/or are dressed) or what.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper. Because variable speed using a frequency convertor is a lot easier using 3 phases. 3 phase is industry standard.
My grinder has a 3 phase drive. The frequency convertor is 1 phase, but outputs 3 phases specifically for this purpose. Having 3 phase motor also allows for controling the direction via the frequency convertor.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
