Default Dang it all! An eBay blade shows up...

Shows up with a crack! I don't know how I missed it in the photos! It also wasn't listed in the description.

I got this sweet W&B a little bit ago, well it showed up today, and my excitement quickly soured. There is a small crack, perpendicular to the blade. I would need to grind away near 1/8 of the height to repair it... What are your thoughts? how would you handle it?

Return if possible. If not, and if you are skilled enough, you could do a light regrind to take out the crack and re-profile the stabilizers so it doesn't look altered.

If not, hone it out and eat into the stabilizers, I guess. That's the kind of work I use a low angle, spine up approach on a DMT for.

Happened to me twice. I only buy if there's a return policy. Sent both back.
I never buy final sale as/is etc. Both sellers were very apologetic and refunded me without any issues.

+1 if there is no mention of the crack. And it is not visible in the pictures you should be able to return it. Or file a claim with ebay buyer protection. It's a shame there is a crack on this blade poor thing.

I can see it in the original pic, now that I know what I am looking at! Here is the description...
"This beautiful used cared for razor is up for sale. The collectible WADE & BUTCHER razor is in fair condition. There are some cracks in the handle. The handle has a couple marks from usage and age. The end of the blade has a half round form and is not broken. The blade is 27/32" wide. The razor is still VERY sharp. Bid now to get this beautiful straight blade dated back to the civil war. This has been appraised at $500."

He said the blade is not broken. I'd say you have good grounds for a full refund.

From what I have read of the eBay "law" he sunk his ship with "the blade... Is not broken". Contact the seller and let him know. He essentially has to accept the return. I feel bad for him though as it is not worth $500. I hope he didn't pay for the appraisal.

If it said in the description that the blade is not broken and you can return it then that's your best bet.
