    So I was going to glue the crack, buy some thin brass strips and bond them to the inside of the scales, then I had an idea. I remembered that I had a whole load of waxed cotton from wrapping my kamisori so I did this on the off chance that it might keep the crack closed:

    ...I used three washers on each side to balance the scales; it took quite a bit of hammering but I'm pretty happy with the tightness now.

    Tomorrow I'll try and hone it up, at last!

    I was able to save a cracked scale by re-pinning but I glued the really clean scale with slow setting CA. To reduce the chance of splitting after, I used a slight 30 degree Dremel tool point to make a countersink in the renewed scale before pinning. that allowed some fattening of the pin without cracking the scale. I used 100 proof alcohol to clean the crack and pin hole. It can cause a problem with some materials. So a very strong degreasing cleaner and good water rinses after would do.
