    Default Salamander 100 basic cleanup

    Hi guys,

Thought I would have a go at polishing a razor and re honing, didnt want to remove all the pitting so just lightly sanded and polished.

Honed using my king 1200, king 4000 and then a natural stone from carbatec nz which is believed to be 10000 to 12000, then stroped.

It cuts hairs when I sweep it across my arm half way up the hairs.

I hope its ready to shave?

Had a little try down my sideburn and it seems good, might have to find a shave ready razor to try.

I need a figure out a good preshave routine for myself as I never had onw with my cartridge razor.

Can anyone give me a history on the salamander razors

Hello from across the big pond!

Nice looking razor. I’m sorry but I’m of no help with the background on it.

From your post, it appears that you’ve never shaved with a truly shave ready razor but are jumping in head first into unknown waters.

If this is true, I highly recommend that you send that razor to Oz for evaluation and honing. He's not far from you, as he's in Australia; His edges are legendary; I wish I could afford to taste one of them but shipping charges to and back are restrictive. Anyway give him a PM. You find him a very helpful and knowledgeable man.

Welcome to a whole new wonderful world of shaving!

    Cheers cudarunner,

I have definately jumped in head first, Razor was obviously not sharp enough as my face is a bit tender this morning, I had to give it a go I couldn't wait

I will Send this one away for hone from a pro, pretty sure it was only $12 - 20 NZD

I know that Oz is a bit busy with mine right now, but should be good to go soon

Standard Guide to Razors says Salamaders were made in Germany, from 1920 - 1926.

Had the salamander pro honed, At first I thought it was already that sharp before I got it honed.
After trying to shave it is definately way better across the whole width. Now i just need some technique.

I now have paddle strop and hanging strop so will be able to try both to see which im more comfortable with.

Really enjoying the challenge, thanks to you all for the daily banter and amazing info on SRP.

Just gotta get the chick onboard for extra soaps, strops etc.......hmm ebay and trademe are calling
