Not sure how I missed this thread last year, but here I've been honing away with the SRP equivalent of the Treaty of Versailles.
Problem: you want to shave with a work of art with all manner of pimped-up features on the spine (inlays, filework, etc.), naturally you wish to protect the fancy bits when you hone, but the purists will have that taping the spine is deception.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the 'Livi Steel Cuff' (Copyright 2007). The steel cuff protects the spine and bears all the natural hone wear as God intended. (And don't anyone point out that the steel used for the cuff might be different to the steel used for the blade and therefore the hone wear will be inconsistent with the edge wear... -- it might not matter for the shave, but goddamit it, it still ain't honest!)

Thanked: 953that cuff would be a nice thing for SRD to commission someone to create, so we can all stop torturing ourselves on our wedges!
I bet back in the day some people just eye-measured the angle, like we do today with kitchen knives.
