    More........

    OK, OK, OK........

Thousands and thousands and I am still learning..........less pressure, less strokes and this applies to using the paste and sprays as well.

Although I really like my Escher, Nakayama and coticule for finishing, I also really like a couple of the new synthetics for finishing too. The feel of the shave is truly an individual thing.

    Have fun.

How many blades must a man hone down,
before you call him a man?

And how many hones must a man own now,
and does that guy sit or stand?

    (with apologies to Bob Dylan)

I don't actually know how many, no where near as many as Lynn "The Machine" but more than most
My great epiphany is "Stropping, is way more important than we give it credit for"

I don't really know. I never counted. At present, between 2 and 5 weekly. In total I have honed more than 100 and less than 300. Do chisels, plane blades and knives count too? In that case add a couple of 100.

on the off-topic topic: When it comes to raw cutting power, I can get further if I make the synthetic Chosera 10K part of the progression. None of my naturals can make an edge that keen. Maybe it's me. And I'm convinced that no stone can push the sharpness barrier in the way that stropping on pastes can. If sharpness was my only concern in honing razors, I'd probably own a 4 sided paddle.

I've dragged a handful of blades over the stones, but at this point my grand total of honed edges is...0.

I've got a good feeling about the current attempt though!

. I am beginning to think I have tough skin considering what others say they cannot do without big lather and extensive prep

    Maybe 100 razors?

Counting all edges: knives, woodworking tools, tooling, etc... thousands (the majority being knives).

Much of it was on the DMT F red machinist hone in my current avatar. It's been riding around in my back left pocket; since 1986 or so.

    In all honesty:

Maybe about twenty or twenty-five razors, and maybe fifty edges (honings) total, max.

Let's see... I've been straight-shaving for about 2 1/2 years, say a thousand days, divided by fifty is twenty, meaning I hone a razor about every twenty days. Sounds about right.

And I own about ten razors, and have sold another ten or fifteen.

So yeah, 25 razors, fifty edges.

Which means I post about 15 comments on SRP for every razor I hone. Whereas Lynn hones about 6 razors for every comment he makes.

The math here isn't very flattering for me; maybe I oughtta shut up a while.
