Thanked: 1212Sandy, I pray you don't burst into tears, when you see the amount of steel I needed to remove. As you can see, the one-layer-of-tape bevel extends all the way to the toes of the eagle. Part of the arrows are gone. Nothing I could do to prevent that. Neither grind or spine on this old razor are even, and that shows up in the varying width of the bevel. In an attempt to make it less obvious, I polished that bevel before going to 3 layers of tape and cut a much smaller bevel that hones up pretty straightforward.
Without putting much effort in finalizing the edge, I got a smooth and close shave out of it. I believe the razor shows promise to be an awesome shaver.
Ok, now that you're fully prepared, you may scroll down...
Bart.

Great Job!
As for a newbie to straight razor shaving this thread has been incredible to read. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with all of us. The pictures really help.
I also have to say I truly enjoy the passion you all have for your craft.
Thank you again and have a blessed day.

Thanked: 1212I don't know if you should call it patience. But I'm terribly stubborn to the verge of being obstinate. Every once in a while it pays off.
Glad there actually was solid steel to be found on that razor. Otherwise I would have send a naked spine to Sandy over a month or so, with a short note: "solid steel was none, sorry".
Again, thanks to all for cheering at the side line.
(funny that no one noticed something about the stone that Wade & Butcher is sitting on, in the last picture...)
Regards,
Bart.
