Belgium Whetstones
I was looking at my ever growing Hone collection the other day, especially the Coticules and BBW's. I got to thinking, these are natural hones, and one day will go by way of the Legandary Escher. The last time I spoke to Howard, he told me he was having a hard time getting the larger 8x3's.
I speak to Rob frequently too, and he's having to go deeper and deeper to get the Select grade hones that are one's you want for your str8's.
I think he told me he figures there's at least another 50 years of Coticule there, but I don't think there's anyway to know for sure what's left.
I love these hones. They are among my favorites. I love the finish is put's on my blade, I love the versatility of it. Raise a slurry, and it works like no other hone. The Garnet's in these hones are truly unique. If you have the means, I'd get one.We have assumed control !

Thanked: 1212If they ever run out, or if Ardennes ever stops mining them, I sure know what the prices will do... (together with the stones' reputation)
It will not be pretty... unless you were sitting on a big pile of them.

I've had the same thought about the coticule. It's not a renewable product by any means, and it's only a matter of time until they all become vintage. I currently only have 2 nice coticules, but I certainly would like more. They truly are a worthwhile stone to have.

Thanked: 1212I bet "Ardennes Coticule" takes orders for a BBW gravestone...
I envision an annual pilgrimage in memory of our dearly departed "Jimmy, the greatest hone collector of the Northern hemisphere". We all bring a razor, and after a quick touch up on the gravestone, we'll have a smooth shave with aid of the mirror that's attached next to a sculptured bust, carved out of a large alum block. Finally, we 'll respectfully rub our freshly shaved, smooth faces over the bust, and return home till the next year.
But please Jimmy, let it still be many decades from now, my friend.

Actually, a Belgian Blue headstone would be awesome. As in the dictionary sense of the word, not the "Bill and Ted" sense.
I am going to tell my wife I want my ashes kept in a BBW urn when I croak. How cool would that be?!1?!

Thanked: 1212I'm sure there's a market for such alum busts.
