I haven't watched it in a long time but if memory serves ... it has Mastro in a village square with a workshop set up and he forges, grinds and finishes a razor. I am pretty sure he does some honing but it has been months since I watched it and I can't recall offhand ,if he did hone the razor, whether he used a similar technique as in the Youtube vid. Lynn is also there with him in Italy and it is a very cool vid.

My DVD is the same Jimmy, and if I recall correctly
the honing that they show is on the coticule followed
by CrO on his loom strop. I'll have to watch it again
soon!

Actually, I didn't see anything glaringly wrong with his technique as he is a pro at it. Its just how he does things.

I've actually read that in the old days that was how you stropped. Lifted up the razor and slapped it down. It was quite refreshing to see it in action tbh. As to him rolling the edge, I did not catch that, I'll have to take another gander, maybe I'll see it. But at first viewing, I actually didn't see anything that made me cringe or fear for the sharpness of the razor.

However, I did find it odd that he keeps that black stuff around to test the sharpness of his razors. That was interesting. We use a single hair and he has a whole bunch of hair or hair-like stuff.

Yeah I could imagine that lock of hair would be really useful. I know my legs would appreciate the break After a couple trials with it, you would know exactly how it should or shouldn't cut the hair to know where you're at.

I think the black stuff was a feather. I have some of those that came with a cat toy. My cat likes feathers. It ain't easy to get a razor sharp enough to cut that stuff IME.

As far as the stropping and honing, I do the back and forth strokes along with circles to set bevels on ebay razors and or razors that are very dull. Watching the vid it appears to me that he treats the razor rather roughly. I couldn't strop like that if I tried without damaging the razor or the strop. OTOH, he obviously knows what he is doing.

I think its hair from the barber. Got me some as well that is a bit coarser than mine.
Just tried his method rubbing gasoline on a chromium oxide strop and it works beautifully to refresh the surface.

I noticed, last night Olivia, that rubbing alcohol works pretty well for smoothing out the CrOx...i had put too much on my linen and it smoothed it out as well as took some of the excess off.
