    Default It's not a razor but how do I hone this?



    Its a bill hook. I guess the knife honers will know how to do this, but I have bever honed anythig without a spine to set the angle.

    i sharpen mine with a round file i ues the bevel that is pre set on the blade it works for me they are made to hack down brush piles so it not that hard to sharpen.

    i agree you need to use file . (YOU CAN use long narrow stones too)Only 1 differences is you sharpen with same as back honing. You can use straight files on straight part of the blade.GL

    Our gardeners employed the oval ('cigar' or 'canoe') hones used for scythes and sickles.

    I used to use a round or half-round file, followed by Oldengaerde's suggestion of a slip-style hone.

    Lately (last 6 years or so), in place of the file, I've been using one of these for all my garden and "heavy" cutting tools. I don't like it on finer knives, but it works well and fast on carpet knives, pruners, even lawn mower blades.
