Thanked: 13234The System:
OK so we have mostly good responses with this, also it seems to work on the Shapton GS but not including the 30k... This won't work well with a heavy slurry...
Read it closely, it is really very easy...
This is the system:::
Now normally I set bevels on a Norton 1k, I don't care what direction I am going from there forward I have the bevel set before I start...
Here is what I have been doing: From the bevel set (so once you feel your bevel is set, then start the new system)...
On the Naniwa 1k I make a light slurry about 5 figure 8's with a DMT 325... I then do 10 laps using the slurry, then dilute and do 5 laps, then dilute to clear water and do 5 laps... I rarely go over 20 laps unless I feel something or see something I don't like.. But remember your bevel should have been set already (This is why I wanted experienced guys )
Move to the next stone, 3k/5k
And do the exact same routine..
10 laps with light slurry, dilute 5 then dilute to clear water and 5 more...
Same with the 8k and 10k if you use it..
On the 12k we start the same 10 light slurry laps then dilute and 3 laps dilute 3 laps dilute Rinse the stone, use your finger to wipe away the excess water and start doing super light very slow laps, until the stone goes to just damp..should be about 10 laps-20 at the most...
Strop as normal and shave..
I use this system on Hollow grinds only, I don't normally finish with synthetics on 1/4 wedge or heavier blades so I don't know if it works with them...
I have done about 2-3 hundred this way, and I am getting really good feedback from the customers about how smooth they are...So I wanted to see if I am just paying more attention to the hones, or if it is actually the system that is working...
Which is why I wanted your guy's help and input...
I am looking now for the flaws in the system, other than not starting with a set bevel...
Give it a try an post your findings... Please use the Feedback form above in post #37
Thanks..
