Thanked: 13234My normal goto finish on the most razors is 12 laps of 99.98% pure white Cerium Oxide on a 24 inch leather bench strop....
I use a bench strop because it is way more exact for a light touch, I use leather because it gives a bit... And I was so exact in my description because you have to be.... and even this is my way, it might not work for you... YMMV
The paste, spray, steel, and medium, that you apply it with can change it from Ahhhhhh to Ewwwwwww so fast it is amazing...
We talk about wrecking an edge with just 5 extra laps on the finisher when honing yet, some of you guys slap that razor on a Balsa strip pasted with Diamond and have no problem stropping away on that and then have the nerve to make a statement like "I tried Diamond and I found it harsh" well duhhhh...
If you are going to use paste, at least learn to use it correctly, if you do, then you will open a whole new door to comfort... Or maybe not...
ps: To the OP you prejudiced your entire thread with your opening statement BTW
"I see a lot of people using high end naturals for finishing, but they use paste after it. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a 200$ natural finisher? Isn't it better, cheaper, and faster to finish on a 8k and paste after it"Last edited by gssixgun; 02-27-2011 at 02:23 PM.

After finishing on a Thuri I will use a small homemede paddle with Chrome ox, about a half dozen laps and then a very thorough stropping,

Thanked: 267I finish from 1K up using Nagura and finally a very fine Asagi. My last step is 10 laps on hard felt using Carbon Boron Nitrate 0.125 micron. The edges that I get are the smoothest and keenest that I have ever used!
I voted mostly stones because CBN in not a paste. I hate diamond or any other kind of paste!
Take Care,
Richard

I have experimented with diamond paste, spray and with chrom-ox and gotten good results with what little I've used them. I went on a mission to get to the point where I could get really good edges off of the finishing stone alone and I got there. Once there I found that even though the pastes may offer more improvement I am happy with the edges I get off of the stones and an unpasted strop of linen/leather.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 2204It really depends upon what new toys I have to play with. Currently I will be trying the 1.0 micron Boron carbide and the 0.125 CBN on leather paddle strops. I like variety!

I personally prefer a finishing stone with slurry to a pasted edge. That said, if I was going to use paste it would be CrOx as I find its not as harsh as diamond spray.
If you're going to use diamond, use it on a fabric like denim or cotton as that reduces the harshness quite a bit.

Has anyone tried using the .125 Cubic Boron Nitride that posted in this thread? I am hearing things about this stuff that is making me very curious, I may need to buy a bottle of the spray.
EDIT:
Nevermind, I bought it LOL.Last edited by Disburden; 03-04-2011 at 06:07 PM.
