I just don't get the rock lunacy.
One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

Thanked: 247I cannot claim to understand it yet either. I guess some guys like them and there are no genuine Eschers being produced anymore. The bigger they are, the harder they are to find in good shape. When the last one breaks, there will be no more.
Still, the synthetics work pretty good....

Thanked: 1936Different stones do different things, they work better on some steels, some don't. A good thuringian like a Escher will work on pretty much each and every razor, where something like an Asagi works just ok on English steels like Wade & Butcher. It's just one of those "to each their own" kind of things...I "want" one of them all personally, problem is that "life" gets in the way.

Thanked: 4827My personal rational behind having primarily synthetics is fairly simple. I went crazy buying razors. Then I went a little over the top on barber hones. The only two things left is strops and hones. The hones require a small amount of knowledge about each of the types or families of hone. They are too expensive for me to buy ten and experiment. So I am using the synthetics and slowly making my way towards HAD. Then maybe I will be able to offer a really great explanation!
