Default What caused this ripple in the edge ?

A current 'bay listing, the vendor says 'this ripple can be honed out'
Is he correct ?....What would cause this ?
    Otherwise the razor is mint.

I do not know what but boy does it look bad. you have like a full 1/8 to remove before you get to a straight edge. Not going to be fun if it is even worth the effort.

Looks like it may have been bent or dropped. Then stropped back "Straight" or something like that. The top of the bend is how much metal you would have to remove to get it back to straight. Unless someone knows another trick.

If you do have to remove material right to the top of the distortion then that is level wth the bottom of the stabiliser, which I think would mean reshaping that as well

I would stay away from that one. Surprised that it didn't crack, chip out, at the site of the distortion, rather than bend.

Even as paper thin as a full hollow can be, I would think a properly tempered edge would break rather than bend at that point.

They can bend all right. The buffer could have caught the edge from poor placement. It's if you try to straighten them afterwards that they break. Only one bend per razor.

True a blade being buffed and allowed too get way to hot then caught on the buffer, this could be more likely to warp like this.

Yeah, it was damaged in some way. Usually if it is dropped or hit on the edge it almost always cracks it or at least chips it.

What razor is it. Just curious the quality of steel that would result in a ripple like this.

looks like to much heat input somewhere alone the line to aneal it to allow for such distortion of the edge metal with out it cracking or chipping out
if it is in such mint condition you would still want it very cheap for the scales only maybe
or as Mainaman noted it will be at best a 5/8 (if 6/8 now) when finnished with no guarrantee it can hold an edge even
    Saved,
    to shave another day.

I would only take that if it was nearly free. Myself, I'm crazy enough to try to straighten it. More than likely, I could do it. Though I really doubt that it would hold an edge if it was able to bend like that.
You don't have to be insane to do the things that I do, but it helps.
