Bismarck's are great shavers especially the pre-Dovo Bismarcks. I have one pre-Dovo Bismarck that I put Ivory scales on and am keeping but had two post Dovo's that I sold recently. Both of the ones I sold were also great shavers, I needed some Christmas money to get my grandson a HO train set and they weren't getting used that much so I figured I would let someone else enjoy them and I'd kill to birds with one stone.

Clean her up, get her honed and enjoy!

I already have the Dovo bismarck current one with the plain ebony scales. I got it for Christmas. This one just caught my eye tho, you know when you see something and you know you shouldn't but you do anyway.

If it is in good condition I'll be leaping like a lunatic for a week

I think every razor I have (50 + or -) caught my eye and 'I knew I shouldn't etc., etc.' but I did anyway.

Well, if you ask the general public we are lunatics anyway just for shaving with such dangerous weapons....LOL! I just tell them "Real men shave with str8 razors!"...they look at you funny but it usually shuts them up.

You can't go wrong with a Bismarck, either pre or post Dovo. Dovo is a decent razor, especially for a new guy because they are quality at a very reasonable price compared to some other razors. Vintage Boker (known for their 'Buttery Smooth' shave) or Bismarck are better razors but of course they cost a little more and are well worth it, just my 2 cents worth.

Right I've blown up the images a little and reduced the contrast to see if I can get a better look at the blade.

    It actually looks pretty promising.

Do you have any experience restoring/cleaning up a blade? Its hard to tell from pics if there is any pitting but she looks like most of the rust on the blade should come off with some Mothers, Flitz, etc., whatever kind of metal polish you have.

If any sanding is required use wet & dry sandpaper and I wouldn't start with lower than 400 grit and work you way up to about 1500 -2000, whatever cleans it up. You can then use the metal polish to make her shine.

If you already have experience good luck with your project and be sure to show us pics when you are finished. If you need any other info please feel free to ask, that is what we are here for, to help.

I'd normally break out the autosol, This razor shouldn't have any etching so it's not going to damage it. I should have it Friday or Saturday depending on the post and if someone is at home to sign for it.

As for sanding, I'd probably opt to mop it with a very low speed drill and work from crayon emery through to Crox. A low speed setting should give me a nice grind pattern and an even finish. I have a lovely conical mop that should just sit nice in the hollow. It'll be done in hand as well so I can feel any heat building.

I'll decide when it comes what it needs, And I'll put up images of it in it's raw state.

I have 3 Bismarck. a 9/16-5/8-6/8 and they all shave very well. the 9/16 was a rust bucket but after clean up I found the edge good so honed it and it's really the one I go to a lot.

    It's arrived early.....

Bismarck registered. ground in Germany, ges.geschützt.

First impressions. It's not a works razor it's a full on Bismarck.

Hone wear, Looks to have had an innital hone, Might even be the factory edge. Very little hone wear.

Condition, no rust, no patina, Pins are smooth, scales are slightly warped and the inlay needs a polish I also have a sneaking suspicion that the scales are wrong. There is a ges geschultz scale on taylors1000.

    It is this blade. http://www.taylors1000.com/ebay_page...k_14/razor.htm

Almost NOS condition overall. It looks to have never been used and if it was used it wasn't used a lot.

Blade itself.... 6/8 semi round point, double shoulder, double jimped, 5/16 tang.Suspected material silver steel.

Pictures will follow, I'm currently leaping about like a lunatic....
