Thread: Box Of Ducks

I bought into some sealed original packaging PleZall straights a couple of years ago from a master box that was also sealed. The seller represented all items as a crap shoot which was fair enough. The two razors I ended up with had untouched mint scales with only the rusted spine and tang left of the steel. The blades were a pile of red powder.
To bad the DD seller in the OP will not show a pic of each razor.Bob

Thanked: 5I saw this. I would bid a grand on it. If you won it at that price, it figure's out to only $200 each. Just don't really need that many razors. Whats really nice it that its two of each size, so IMO, that would really make a nice shaving set.

Thanked: 1184Buying any razors off the bay has it's moment of gamble. If you don't ask every question then your gambling. I always drool over these things but if I was selling them I would show all the blades. As a buyer I would be willing to spend more on what I could see and know. When the seller says "treasure hunt " or "up to the buyer to find out" I never see the results posted in New acquisitions section :<0) Being skeptical I always think "yeah the seller knows he just ain't saying "
I can see these going waaaay high though.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I find it strange that people are willing to put down a lot of money for a Dubl Duck (especially for ones you can't actually see, like here), given the number of ones in relatively decent state showing up on eBay with great regularity as well the numerous reports of issues with scales, as well as the fact that they're really not all that rare. Some are, but even those often are reported to have serious scale issues. But hey, that's just my opinion.

If you are selling a razor as NOS, the item in a sealed package potentially will get you the best price. Once you unseal it, it's just your word it's NOS. Of course if you buy it and pay top dollar and it turns out to have deteriorated, well it's still technically NOS and you have no recourse. It's a leap of faith.

I know someone who had this exact thing happen. Purchased two NOS razors, sealed in the box, when opened, the wrapper had merged with the scales and it was just a mass of rusted metal and oozing scales on both blades. He had no recourse as you say, the seller said, they were unopened NOS....you takes your chances as they say!!

I think an NOS razor is only NOS if it is still sealed, unopened and unused. IMHO If not than its in mint condition as long as it IS mint condition, but like others have said buying something that is sealed and unopened that is 50-200 years old is a leap of faith when you can't see the product. Sometimes that is the fun part. Like opening a present, don't know whats in there till you do.

Too rich for my blood. Between bills and an un-forseen home reno because of mold/water intrusion I'll have to stick to one at a time as my funds allow. That's a nice looking set of NOS though...

Thanked: 4826They are like going to the Casino, and I want a gamble to pay if it is a winner, not break even if it's a winner and dump the pot if it's not. The price is going to go to high for me I think. I am going to watch it though. You never know when everyone else is going to be sleeping.
